Microsoft Planner spreads your work across buckets in Teams. There is no way to tell from the bucket view which tasks are critical to your end date.

Your plan opens on a Gantt timeline with float calculated for every task: the number of days it can slip before it delays the project finish. Tasks with zero float are highlighted in red. Tasks with float keep their default colour.

Account for approval cycles and mandatory wait times

Microsoft Planner has no native dependency system. You get task dependencies here, and more — minimum dependency durations let you model the mandatory gaps that exist in every M365 project.

Set a minimum gap between tasks to account for a SharePoint approval window, a Teams review cycle, or a scheduled sign-off. That constraint builds into the CPM calculation, and the critical path you see is the one your project actually has — not a theoretical one that ignores real-world delays.

Step 1: Connect Microsoft Planner to Placker with your Microsoft 365 account

Sign in to Placker using your Microsoft 365 credentials and select your Microsoft Planner plan. Placker imports your tasks and maps them to a Gantt timeline. Existing due dates appear immediately.

Step 2: Open the Gantt view and click Visibility → Show critical path

Switch to Placker's Gantt view and open the Visibility menu in the toolbar. Select "Show critical path." Placker calculates float for every task based on your dependency links and due dates.

Step 3: Zero-float tasks are highlighted in red on the Gantt

Tasks with zero float appear in red. These are the tasks your project end date depends on. All other tasks keep their default colour — they have slack and will not immediately delay the project if they slip.

Step 4: Edit any task in Teams or Planner — the path recalculates instantly

Update a due date in Microsoft Teams, the Planner app, or directly in Placker's Gantt. The critical path recalculates automatically. Red highlighting shifts to reflect the updated schedule — no manual refresh needed.
